Purpose and Scope:

Under the direction of the Manager of Health and Social Services, the Family Well-Being Worker will work to deliver the Family Wellness Program within Pic Mobert First Nation. This program provides:

  • Various programming for children and families;
  • Counselling and supports to young parents with children, young couples, young adults who are in conflict with the law or who are dealing with family violence;
  • Awareness and education on ways to cope with family violence.

The program will work from a safe residential program space in the community and will involve networking with community and regional services.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in Social Work, Native Child and Family Services, Education, or a combination of related education and experience;
  • At least 2 years of experience in working with children, families and First Nation social issues;
  • Experience in setting up, delivering, monitoring and evaluating social programming and working within budgets;
  • Basic computer skills, ideally proficient in Word and excel;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, counselling skills, presentation skills;
  • Training skills, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize work flow;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive;
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality with regard to sensitive information;
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screening;
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license as some travel is required.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and implement family programming along with organizing helpers for programming as needed such as:
    • Early Childhood infant/ toddler parent programming with a focus on parenting and family relationships;
    • Community events for families;
    • Young moms and dads support program which will include one-on-one counselling;
    • Respite programming, support for moms to be working on healing and family strengthening;
    • Workshops, training and programming for family groups, etc.;
  • Support for youth aged 18-35 who are in trouble with the law which would involve court support, organizing transportation, working with Probation Officers, one-on-one counselling, group training, etc.;
  • Community awareness and education related to family violence;
  • Work as part of the staff team, supporting Health and Social program staff and activities as appropriate;
  • Abide by the principles and behavioural expectations of client and program confidentiality;
  • Support community members in crisis as part of the staff team;
  • Be a role model in personal and family health through personal conduct within the workplace and outside of work in the community;
  • Other duties as directed by Health and Social Director and/or the Band Manager.
